At Heritage enriching and enlarging our pupils’ experience of life is the focus of everything we do. We are passionate about learning for its own sake and seek to nurture the natural curiosity children bring to school from age 4. We are as interested in a child’s attitude to learning as we are in their academic results. Our Enrichment Programme is an expression of this commitment, as are our camps from Year 5 to Year 11 and our international trips.
From Year 1 (Upper Prep) to Year 8 dedicated enrichment lessons are built into the timetable. These take place every Thursday or Friday afternoon. Pupils experience a huge range of activities in school, around Cambridge and further afield. Concerts, museum trips, theatre workshops, countryside rambles, trips to London, science and maths workshops, cooking, careers talks, inspirational speakers and many more activities all feature. Any costs associated with trips on our Enrichment Programme are included in school fees. The feedback we receive from both providers and from parents testify to the enjoyment and value of this programme, which is yet another aspect of Heritage that makes it unique.

Heritage School places a high priority upon getting outdoors and engaging with the real world. We want our pupils to pay attention to, appreciate, and enjoy the natural world. Nature walks are a regular feature of our curriculum in the Infant and Junior School, and in Years 7 and 8 natural history features in our Enrichment Programme through nature walks and field studies on Coe Fen and along the River Cam, as well as through visits to Cambridge’s Museum of Zoology and the Sedgwick Museum.
Forest School is an important part of our Enrichment programme for Infants and Juniors. Pupils from Reception (Lower Prep) through to Year 6 enjoy in rotation a term of Forest School each year at a woodland site we can walk to. Our goal is to give children an opportunity to enjoy and explore, and to develop woodland skills such as making pegs, hoops and mallets for setting up camp or learning how to light a fire.

A significant part of our Enrichment Programme every year for each year group from Years 5 to 8 is preparing and then performing a class drama production. The productions give all pupils in the year group an opportunity to develop empathy with their characters, work effectively as a team, and build their confidence in expressing themselves publicly. In Year 7 and 8 pupils also have the advantage of a dedicated Drama lesson one day per week.
Shakespeare features heavily in our Drama programme. Our most recent productions have been Alice in Wonderland (Year 5), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Year 6), Julius Caesar (Year 7), and The Tempest (Year 8), all of which have been a delight to the audience and the actors alike.
