Premier After School Club
We are pleased to partner with Premier Education to provide an after school club every day from 3.30 – 5.30pm for pupils in Reception through to Year 6. This provision is separate from the ‘Stay & Play’ childcare provided for Reception and Year 1 pupils from 1.00 – 3.30pm on their shorter school days.
Parents can book and pay online for places up until 2pm on the day of the session. The cost is £9.00 per hour and parents have the option of booking one or both hours.

The after-school club sessions they run at Heritage include a healthy snack and offer a range of engaging indoor and outdoor activities including arts & crafts, football, dodgeball, board games, team games, construction, free play and more. Children are encouraged to get active through play, and physical activities are designed to be inclusive. There is also a quiet area for children to read or do their homework.

Stay & Play
At Heritage we have intentionally chosen a gentler start for our youngest pupils. Reception pupils come to school for two full and three half days each week and Year 1 pupils have 4 full days and one half day per week. We have found that this brings balance to a child’s week, with focussed, high-quality engagement and learning at school supported by plenty of rest and play time at home.
To simplify this arrangement for Reception and Year 1 parents we offer ‘Stay and Play’, optional childcare provision running on the shorter days from 1.00 – 3.30pm. For Reception this is on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and for Year 1 on Wednesdays only.
Stay & Play is run by Heritage teacher Miss Cage who arranges activities including gardening, cooking, crafting, stories, free play and mini trips to the playground, City Library and Cambridge Botanical Gardens.
There is a modest fee for Stay & Play sessions. Stay & Play is separate to After School Club which Reception and Year 1 parents are also welcome to use if a further extension to the school day is needed.

Homework in the Junior School
At Heritage our curriculum is ambitious and we aim for academic excellence, but we do so in a way that seeks to avoid undue pressure and that promotes balance. Unstructured time for play or time for musical or community activities all have their place in a healthy childhood. This matters because we are as interested in a child’s attitude to learning as we are in his or her academic achievement. Too much intensity too soon can have the opposite of the desired effect.
In the early years we keep homework to a minimum, focusing almost exclusively upon reading skills. As children get older, a modest amount of homework helps build independent study skills and involves parents in the learning process. The main focus is on essential skills in Maths and English. By Year 5 pupils are expected to have an hour and 25 minutes of homework per week, and an hour and 45 minutes per week in Year 6. This includes Latin and French homework as well.
