Heritage Pupils Celebrate LAMDA Success

Children at Heritage encounter poetry, drama and great writing from an early age, learning to recite, listen closely, speak clearly and bring texts to life. LAMDA, with its graded exams in dramatic verse and prose, is a natural extension of this approach.

Last year, Heritage pupils from Year 3 to Year 11 took 51 LAMDA exams, ranging from Entry Level through to Grade 6 Bronze Medal in Acting, Verse and Prose, and Shakespeare for Performance. Every single one was passed with Merit or Distinction.

But the real achievement lies in the work behind these fantastic results. Pupils learned and performed an extraordinary range of material: whimsical poetry by Joseph Coelho and W. H. Davies, lively speeches from Roald Dahl, Richmal Crompton and C. S. Lewis, and some rather more formidable characters from Shakespeare, including Lady Macbeth and Lady Percy. This is where their Heritage foundations really shone.

LAMDA is about much more than performance. Pupils learn to understand a text deeply, communicate it clearly, develop presence and confidence to answer examiners’ questions, and think carefully about language, character and meaning.

We are immensely proud of the commitment shown by all our pupils – both those who already love performing, and those who have taken on LAMDA as a way to build confidence and find their voice. A wonderful set of results, and a lovely example of the way confidence, discipline, memory and a love of language come together in school life at Heritage.
