Strong Performances from Heritage Team at Olympic Cup Debut
Heritage took a team of 19 athletes to compete in our first ‘Olympic Cup’, a district-wide competition held at the Cambridge University athletics track on 18th June. Well done to all our competitors, who represented the school brilliantly and achieved some excellent results across the day.
In Year 8, Anna won the 1500m and placed 2nd in the long jump with a school record of 4.07m. Hanna won the javelin with a throw of 21.31m. Lydia set a new school record in the high jump of 1.20m. George won the boys’ javelin, also setting a new school record (24m), and achieved a high jump of 1.35m. Wilfrid scored valuable points in both the 1500m and discus, while the long jump record was broken by Sam with a jump of 3.83m. Well done to all Year 8 athletes for their efforts and achievements.
The Year 9 boys also had an excellent day. Oliver broke school records in both the 100m and high jump, while Benji set new records in the 800m and discus. Valuable points were also scored by Rufus in the 300m and javelin, and Quentin in the 1500m and shot put. A fantastic performance from the whole Year 9 team.
Year 10 also enjoyed considerable success. Heritage recorded double wins in the javelin, with Oreofe taking the girls’ title (25.94m) and Matthew winning the boys’ title (29.05m). Matthew also finished 3rd in the long jump with 4.51m. Oreofe won the shot put with 9.75m, setting a new Year 10 record by over 3 metres, and placed 4th in the 200m. Sienna ran the first-ever 300m by a Heritage pupil, finishing 4th overall. Edward, Danielle, Lydia and Anna also performed strongly in their events, contributing valuable points for the team. Well done to all Year 10 athletes for a superb set of results.
