As part of their study of Greek city-states, Year 3 pupils explored the design of the aspis — the large round shield used by Spartan warriors. They created their own shield designs inspired by those common in Ancient Sparta and then worked together to form a phalanx, a closely packed military formation to cooperatively defend themselves against Mr Payne!
