Student

Virtual Sports Day

Senior pupils and Staff came together (metaphorically speaking) on Wednesday to compete in the inaugeral (but hopefully never to be repeated) Heritage School Virtual Sports Day. Points were given for time spent doing different physical challenges ranging from running and tennis to stair climbing and skipping. For those who had the opportunity horse riding, open water swimming and even kayaking were enjoyed. There was even an energetic housework option the pupils could choose to do which was surprisingly popular with parents. 75% of the student body competed in the day which was entirely optional and some pupils (and staff) completed a staggering number of challenges amounting to over 7 hours of exercise. One parent reported that her daughter had set her alarm for 6am to pack in some activities before morning zoom lessons which were compulsory until 11am. Congratulations to all students who took part. You were amazing.

The overall individual winners:

1st  Madelaine Scarlata

2nd Tobiloba Anifalaje

Equal 3rd  Holly Webb/Emily Austin/Nathaniel Scarlata

House Results:

The Blue Pegasus team were the overall winners with 189 points

The Green Griffins were one point behind with 188 points

Yellow Phoenix came in with 116 points

The Red Dragons were 4th with 98 points.

Many many thanks to Mrs Pluke for all her hard work making this happen.

Year 11 Leadership Team

We are pleased to announce the appointment of our Head Boy and Head Girl for next next academic year, together with our Prefect Team.

Head Boy – Maxwell Buchanan

Head Girl – Holly Webb

Prefects – Sophie Rudge, Tobiloba Anifalaje and Emma Rigby

Both Maxwell and Holly have been at Heritage since Lower Prep.  Below are their responses to their appointments:

‘I am highly honoured to have been chosen for the role of Head Boy. Over the past eleven years, Heritage has taught me a lot and made me a more rounded person through enrichments, camps and sport. I am delighted to have the opportunity to give something back. As Head Boy I would love to help the Staff with tasks around the school. As well as this, I want to continue the great fundraising we have been doing up till now and increase the feel of community in the school through fun inter-house quizzes. I am looking forward to being an ambassador for the school during Open Mornings. I’m excited to see what I can do in the next year.’ Maxwell Buchanan

‘Since the day I began at Heritage almost eleven years ago, I have enjoyed so many aspects of school life. Alongside learning and making friendships, the school camps, enrichments, sports days and nature walks have made school life very special. Now, in my final year of Heritage, I am excited to have the opportunity to be Head Girl, and hope I can use what Heritage has taught me to serve the school. As Head Girl I would love to run a duathlon club to encourage others to push their limits. I also look  forward to creating some playground challenges run by different year groups to encourage inclusivity and teamwork. I am very excited about the next year and am looking forward to seeing how I can make a difference.’ Holly Webb

We wish them well in their new roles and look forward to seeing their leadership skills develop over the year.

Passing the Baton

We are so grateful to Meg Lowe for her tremendous commitment, leading the HCA over the past two years.  She has given so much time and energy supporting the Heritage community which in turn makes Heritage such a special place.

Meg says “Heritage is a really special community.  I’ve really loved being so involved with the HCA, and look forward to continuing to being part of it for many years to come!”

We are thrilled to hear that Rachel Bruins and Ellie Stoneley will be stepping up as Co-Chairs from September and look forward to supporting them as they gather together a new committee and a team of Class Reps to keep the cake sales, coffee mornings, welcome events, and the fundraising going.

If you would like to be part of this please contact HCA@heritageschool.org.uk

Ellie says “I am really proud and excited to be co-chairing the HCA this coming year, particularly with someone as organised and intuitive as Rachel. I think our skill sets are very different and will work well together. I feel so grateful for the wonderful community at Heritage and really look forward to building on this, particularly through these challenging times, whilst raising funds for the school and also for Amazing Grace school in Uganda.

Welcome Back

We are so pleased to welcome 93 Infant and Junior pupils back into school today.  There may have been some nerves on arrival at the various entry points after such a long break, but these quickly dissipated once classes were reunited and settled back into their various classroom routines.

Staff have done an amazing logistical exercise working out how to move the children in their bubbles, around the school and the playground, with all the necessary safety measures in place.

Mr Fletcher, the Headmaster says ‘We are so pleased to be able to welcome back more pupils today, to see them constructively engaged in lessons and to hear lots of noise from the playground! I want to thank our parents for their support throughout the lockdown and, now, as it starts to lift – adapting to so much change and embracing new systems to keep us all safe.’

We are still providing our Learning at Home curriculum for those who cannot attend school, and for our Senior School, but we very much hope that we will be able to welcome them back too, in the not too distant future.

The Great Moth Challenge

The Nature Challenge’s continue, and this past week, involved using a sheet, a torch and a washing line to create a light trap, to see how many moths and varieties of moth you could attract in one evening.  We received some wonderful photographs and pictures carefully identified and labelled.   Thank you to all those who took part.
